My friend Suzy is a dentist. Or rather, my friend Suzy is my dentist. However, when she's out of the office now and again, I end up getting her dad as a substitute. On each of these occasions, he asks me the same question: Do I want to get braces to ditch the gaps in my teeth?

Now, each time I say no because it doesn't have anything to do with my health, but it makes me think about how I could simply say yes and change my appearance. It's funny because I've always thought of body modification as something that makes you more of an individual. I like my teeth the way they are, but wouldn't it be weird if I changed myself to look more "normal"?
